A simple road cut can expose the layers fossils have been locked in for 350 million years.
Some of the Best places to collect fossils around the twin cities are in Ramsey, Dakota, and Goodhue counties. Most rocks in this region formed from sediments deposited in shallow seas that covered the area about 505 to 438 million years ago in what is known as the Octavian Period. Almost twice as old as dinosaurs!! Dinosaurs were only 252 to 66 million years ago!
